WHERE IT ALL STARTED
Owner Brian Johnston has been a pioneer in the Australian camper industry for over two decades. Brian's journey began in 2000 with the creation of fully Australian-made soft floor campers under the brand Johnno’s Campers. These campers quickly gained national recognition for their off-road capabilities, proving their worth on every challenging track across Australia. Johnno’s Campers became a go-to choice for adventurers looking to hire or buy reliable off-road campers, setting a high standard in the industry.
In 2003, after selling Johnno’s Campers (buying back the name in 2012 for future developments), Brian identified a new market need for lightweight and compact campers that could be easily towed by motorbikes and small cars. This led to the birth of Elite Campers. As manufacturing costs in Australia rose, Brian became a trailblazer by moving production offshore, ensuring the same high standards and quality. Elite Campers gained national popularity, offering durable and affordable solutions for adventure enthusiasts.
The Birth of ALTITUDE campers
In 2013, Altitude Campers was launched with a mission to build top-quality off-road campers. Starting with soft floor models and soon expanding to hard floor and forward fold campers, Altitude Campers maintained its commitment to excellence. Despite the shift to offshore manufacturing for some models, the quality and standards remained uncompromised. The introduction of hybrid campers marked a new era, with Altitude Campers leading the way in innovation and durability without breaking the bank.
AUSTRALIAN MANUFACTURING & ALPINE CAMPERS
Simultaneously, Brian continued to support Australian manufacturing by building hybrids 100% in Queensland. These hybrids featured Australian-made chassis, structural foam composite body panels, and lightweight yet strong internal structures. In 2020, to highlight the dedication to Australian craftsmanship, Alpine Campers was established as a standalone brand, fully committed to producing high-quality, Australian-built hybrids.
With a workforce of over 40 dedicated staff, Brian and Carolyn are proud supporters of Australian manufacturing. They enjoy exploring the great outdoors in their ALP-16 Alpine Camper whenever they can, embodying the adventurous spirit that drives the Alpine Adventure Centre.
THE JOHNNOS REBIRTH
In 2020, Johnnos was finally reborn into the Australian market. Designed here in Australia and meticulously built off-shore, the Johnnos range of hybrid models is what we would call 'premium-imports'.
The Johnnos Campers have approx. 11 days of assembly at our facility on the Sunshine Coast pre-delivery, fitting critical components and electrical systems.
